It's the nervous energy of youth uncontainable despite it’s owner’s best efforts. Old college bands like Ween and Breeders. It’s sweet simple young innocent - from way back in our boyhoods, but also from way back in rock history, like the simplest rock, played by the truest garage bands. The initial Pumpkins-knockoff riff just keeps ticking with nervous energy throughout the song, mostly just below the cloudcover, but at lucky moments popping up above. To me, you gotta pay attention to the instrumentals as well as the lyrics. (if you wanna see it, go to /2007/04/silversun-pickups-lazy-eye-melts-in-my.html) General CommentReally good ideas on here! Back a year ago I dedicated a blog post to this song's meaning. The ending of the song reiterates on this same idea. He's seeing the bigger picture of it all and goes past his inner feelings and regrets to go with the flow and avoid pressure. "The room, the sun, and the sky." He did it anyways. He told people that he relates, he's been intimate, he is just like them and has no problem moving on.

The rest is pretty funny to me - "that's why i said I relate, i said we relate, it's so fun to relate" With this line he's showing clear regrets and saying that he basically lied to everyone else. Because he doesn't feel that it's right when all he can manage on her is just a lazy eye. He may be feeling some guilt along with the regret - I think he isn't ready to move on with the relationship and begin to be more intimate. "Everyone so intimately rearranged" Here he's noticing that noone else seems to be feeling the same way as he is. Possibly my own biased being a teenage boy and having experienced such a situation myself.

He can only manage to keep his "lazy eye" rested on her. The Lazy eye refers to him trying to keep his attention on her but his main focus doesn't rest on her. It's just a matter of time" He's waiting to try and truly express his love and attempt to become more intimate.įor some reason I think that the Lazy Eye has more to do with infidelities and inexperience on his part rather than the other comments I've seen on here. "I've been waiting for the silence all night long. The next verse is him hearing the advice of others (Possibly parents / role models) telling him that love is more complex than he realizes. or what he thinks is love and jumps into it only to find that he's not sure if he actually HAS found love. but it's not quite right" He's found love. "I've been waiting for this moment all my life. ) Namely capgun and a few others.Īnyways, the song starts with him expressing that his optimism was quickly replaced by regret. General CommentI've been listening to Silversun Pickups for a while and some of the comments on here made me want to sign up.
